FAQ

NO .The DMV, or Department of Motor Vehicles, is responsible for managing vehicle registrations at local offices. CARB, or the California Air Resources Board, operates in Sacramento and some regional offices around the state.

Carb charges are $32 per vehicle. Tests cost between $95-and $115 Onsite travel port to port is $100. We can collect and pay CARB fees at your terminal if you did not set up a CARB account online.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • The CARB Registration Hold is a state-mandated requirement for vehicles that are registered in California.
  • The hold is placed on vehicles that have not met the state's emissions standards.
  • In order to remove the hold, you must have your vehicle smogged and pay any outstanding CARB Fees.
  • If you do not remove the hold, you will not be able to renew your registration or operate your vehicle legally.

If you have any questions about the CARB Registration Hold or the smog test process, please contact our office. We are here to help you get your vehicle registered and back on the road as quickly as possible.

  • Mileage: While most vehicles with less than 300,000 miles pass emissions tests, it's important to note that mileage is not a factor of the test. How well it has been maintained is a major role.
  • OEM Emissions Components: Vehicles that have not had their emissions components modified are more likely to pass emissions tests. This is because modified components can affect the vehicle's emissions output, making it more difficult to meet the required standards.
  • Dirty Air Filters: Dirty air filters are the leading cause of failed emissions tests. A dirty air filter can restrict airflow to the engine, which can cause the vehicle to run rich and produce more emissions.
  • Clean and Well-Maintained Vehicles: Vehicles that are clean and well-maintained are more likely to pass emissions tests. This is because regular maintenance can help to keep the vehicle's emissions system functioning properly.
  • Engine Code Dash Warnings: Vehicles with engine code dash warnings fail emissions tests . prior cleared issues need onroad miles to establish the engine operates in compliancy with repairs made

Complete Engine Labels: Vehicles need complete engine labels to pass emissions tests. The engine manufacture required label will state date of manufacture and EPA compliance verbiage. Injection pump labels must contain a FAMILY NUMBER

The California Air Resources Board (CARB)  is not affiliated with DMV. Even if DMV has not placed a registration hold you were required to register and test your diesel motorhome with CARB in 2003.  CARB recently organized a compliancy check with DMV and notices of Registration holds started to be sent in 2004. however CARB has not billed any of our Motorhome clients with fines and interest so far for paying 2023 fees late or not getting a 2023 smog test. We understand you must act to become compliant by December 15 2024 or face fines that can get steep

If you own a motorhome used for non-commercial private use and have received a incomplete registration, , it's crucial to take action to ensure compliance with the Clean Truck Check regulations.
